What does the DA-Dongle DPFDR do? How does it operate?

The DA-Dongle connects directly to the vehicle OBDII (diagnostic) connector and is a stand-alone product that requires no other cables during operation.  The device does not need to be used with SDD.

Once the DPFDR Dongle is connected to the OBDII connector the DPF will be cleared using the mode of operation below:

DPF Dynamic Regeneration

• IGN ON – Engine running – The Dongle will begin DPFDR drive cycle similar to SDD.
  • When the engine is up to temperature (60°C) the dongle will beep for 3 seconds every 10 seconds until the road speed is greater than 40KPH. The dynamic regeneration will then begin.
  • The Dongle will emit a short beep increasing in frequency as the soot mass level drops. 
  • When the soot mass falls below 6 grams a constant beep will be heard, and the STS LED will show solid green.
  • It should take approximately 15 minutes to complete (when the vehicle is driven above 40 KPH).

Note:  It is recommended that a right angled J1962 extension cable be used to ensure the dongle does not interfere with the vehicle controls. This can be purchased along with the DPFDR Dongle.

How does the DA-Dongle get updated for future Model Years and New Vehicles?

The DA-Dongle can be updated simply and easily by connecting the DA-Dongle to a laptop/PC via the USB cable that is provided with each DA-Dongle.  A PC software update application is available to download from the Download page.  This application once downloaded and launched will be responsible for identifying what version of software is on the device, and whether a new version is available for update.  By connecting the device to the PC when the software update application is running, the application will read the device and connect over the internet to determine if updated software is available and download this to the device if a newer version exists.  This process takes approximately 3 minutes to complete.  The device will then be updated and ready to be used on the vehicle.

Once purchased, the DPFDR Dongle subscription will last for 3 years. After that 12 month subscriptions will need to be purchased to cover updates to cover future model years.
